Gusty and Cold

The SBSS Cup race for 2006 was held on Sunday, April 16th in gusty and cold southeast winds with just a scattering of rain showers. Trevor Henderson's new Gartside 12, launched the day before and with his father crewing, was first across the start line at 11:15 hours and she was never seriously challenged throughout the race. The Norfolk Mauther sailing out of Nanaimo with her owner and his fiance aboard was second across the starting line and maintained that position despite a stop to reef during the second leg.

Gartside first, Mauther second

So the Gartside and Trevor own the Cup and the new record of 00:45:00 for this year while Mauther in second place holds the respectable time of 1:00:00.

Also Racing

Also sailing this year were the newest of BareFoot Wooden Boat's pogy class with James McAlister-Roberts at the helm, another BareFoot pogy with Richard Lyons and his daughter Kayle, and the Mower dory built in the SBSS this past year and launched Saturday, sailing with Quill Goldman helming and a mixed crew. Miss Haley, the Catspaw dinghy owned and built by Bill Dwolinsky and crewed by SBSS student Lucas Christopher also came out as did the new DuckTrap Wherry built by Hilmark Boats of Campbell River.
