Whiskey Planks and Details

The week following the holiday break has seen final (whiskey!) planks going on the Mower dory and attention being paid to detail on the other projects. A traditional wooden boat is nothing if not a collection of endless details; fitting curved surfaces, small hardware fastened to wooden pieces, and the matching of fasteners to each type of joint and species of wood.

The Catspaw received her bronze keel and stem plate, bedded and screwed into the red-leaded keel. After installation of the garboards, further planks are being shaped and cut for the electric launch. And the Gartside bottom is being sanded and varnished beautifully prior to her turnover.
