Shipyard School Raid, Sept. 2-8, 2005
The first Shipyard School Raid, an annual 7 day race for traditional small boats that starts in Silva Bay, crossed the finish line in Port Townsend September 8, "after a week of hard racing in challenging conditions by a fleet of nine small boats in 11 legs over a 89 nm course". (Shipyard School Raid)
This year the trophy, built by our own Trevor Henderson, goes to SBSS alumni Richard Lyons, Quill Goldman, and Chad sailing--and rowing--Ratty, the boat Richard and Quill built and Tad Roberts designed and owns. The trophy will be returned to SBSS where it will be on display until next September, when it will be claimed by its next winners, who will, in turn, return it to the school.
One of the first boats built at SBSS, by the class of '98-'99, the 17' Whitehall Roaralso raced in the Raid. Read more about Roarin the Archive.
