Boat Launch 2008 April 21th, 08

The day started with snow and power outages, but it got better. We launched two newly built boats on schedule and in the (chilly) sunshine. With just a few minor rigging details sorted on Saturday morning, the students received their certificates and donned boots to carry the boats to the waters edge.

The Coquina went in first, she floated nicely, Nick, Will, and Gareth seemed surprised but happy. Gareth took the oars and they moved out into the bay to hoist sails and they were off!

Then it was the Tamie Norrie, Skean dhu’s turn. Ted took the oars right away while Pete and Wendy just grinned. Once the sails were up, both boats were filled with grinning boatbuilders. The rest of the day was filled with boat rides, congratulations, much more grinning, and good food and music at the resort in the evening.

Much credit for this success is due to Al, Trevor, and Les, our Shipyard School Staff. I congratulate and thank them for their efforts in making this class a great success. The boats launched this year are first class, as are the students. My best to all.
