Admissions

Admissions Policy

Thank you for your interest in SBSS. Our basic admission requirements include the following:

Students must be at least 19 years of age, have a good command of the English language, be physically fit for manual work, have no known allergies to wood materials or marine adhesives, and have a sincere interest in traditional boatbuilding and cabinetry.

Enrollment in our courses pends on our receiving the Application Package, the approval of our Administrator and Head Instructor, and the payment of deposits and fees.

How to Apply

The application process has five steps:

  1. The first step in the application process is to contact our School Administrator, Les Jackson to find out when seats are available, confirm current fees and deposits, and learn more about the courses. You can call him at 1+ 250.247.8809, or you can fill out and submit the online request form.
  2. Next, mail to SBSS an application package that contains:
    • A) The completed PDF Application Form;
    • B) The $50.00 non-refundable application fee;
    • C) A short essay on why you want to study at SBSS;
    • D) A letter from you indicating that the school will be receiving a letter of reference; the letter can be from anyone of your choosing who can attest, using concrete examples, that you have sincerity, initiative, and perserverance.
  3. Once SBSS has your package and letter of reference, an interview will be arranged--preferably in person but if necessary by telephone.
  4. Once you have been accepted, a contract will be mailed to you to sign and return.
  5. Finally, you will need to return the signed contract with a deposit to hold your seat.
